Occupational therapists work with people across the lifespan who need specialized assistance to live independent, productive, and satisfying lives. OTs believe that an essential part of healing and recovery from injury, disability or illness is being able to participate in daily activities that you find meaningful. We use the “occupations” of self-care, work, and play/leisure activities to increase independence, enhance development, and prevent disability. To achieve goals set by the client with the occupational therapist, tasks and/or the environment may also be adapted or modified for successful and confident participation in meaningful daily activities. Occupational therapy treatment focuses on helping people be as independent as possible in all areas of their lives in order to live life to the fullest.
